REVIEW: QUANTUM TEENS ARE GO #1

Two teens raid an abandoned facility for tech to build a time machine. Ok, still with me? Good! That’s what happens in this comic book. Interesting premise with an interesting title. Black Mask is a great home for smaller creator owned comics, releasing interesting new titles every month. This is a great addition to their line up this coming spring.

The story opens up with two teens. Nat and Sumesh who are in a romantic relationship together and very passionate about their personal tech projects. With both of them breaking into some sort of facility with a very high-tech security system with robots. Created by Magdalene Visaggio and Eryk Donovan with Visaggio tackling the writing, and its pretty good. It’s always hard to judge on the first issue because it’s mostly set up for the next issue. But there is a lot of humor and interesting story telling and character background. Sumesh seems like your average teenage nerd, always ready for adventure and to invent something amazing. With Nat alluding to an interesting background, with telling you that Nat used to be Brandon and went through a sex change surgery. While her parents still haven’t fully adjusted to it and people at school still making fun of her. This is a great first issue to read just for the social issues it tackles. I hope they do more with it in a future issue.

Eryk Donovan has an interesting style for this title that really works. I would love to get this in my hands in print to really see how well the detail holds up. But this has lots of detail in the tech they show with a good setting in the background. I really like how the panels are laid out throughout the whole issue not feeling cluttered but still having lots of things happening in one page. I would love to see some more action in the next issue to see how they can handle big action.

I really liked this, but at the end of the day. It is a lot of set up for what seems like a much more interesting issue #2. But everything about it is solid. Great story telling with lots of fun humor, and interesting characters that i want to know more about. It seems like they are creating a great story. I want to see more and read more action and more info on this time machine. Till then I’m gonna give this  4.5 Stars
